Sign the Letter to Brown
Dear Governor Brown,
Last December California's wealthiest 5% received a windfall worth $20 billion from the extension of the federal tax cuts. They don't need that money. They have plenty. However California could certainly use some of it. That money alone could cover over 2/3 of California's shortfall.
It's time to ask those who benefit the most from California's infrastructure, educated work force and favorable business opportunities to pay their fair share.
Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner (AD14) has authored AB 1130 ("Reagan Wilson Share the Wealth") which would raise taxes by 1% tax on income over $500,000.
AB 1130 would raise $2.3 billion and be a first step in restoring fairness and sanity to California's permanent revenue stream.
The California Federation of Teachers polled likely voters and found 78%, including 60% of Republicans, would support raising taxes by 1% on income over $500,000.
California needs new, permanent revenues. This is a popular proposal, probably because it's fair.
I urge you to support AB 1130.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
